Lifehacker just published a "Top 10 Free Windows Downloads" list. The list itself can be much debated, of course--which it currently is being (debated) in the numerous comments. Now, the comments themselves form an extremely useful two-cents-worth of currently available and in-use free downloads! Having a look at the comments will certainly be worth your while.
